Review:
The Macbook MB402B/B may not be the latest Macbook on the market, but it’s one of the most affordable which in current financially unsure times, is a pretty important feature.
But let’s not take away from what else this particular Macbook holds in store for us. It come with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor, to give you top-quality graphics without compromising on the all important battery life. This means you can keep up to speed with online gaming, as well as office and multimedia programs.
Speaking of multimedia features, the Macbook MB402B/B comes packaged with iLife- a pretty impressive software suite which is designed to bring your photos, videos and other random bits of content together for whatever creative purpose you have in mind. iLife includes: iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand and lastly iWeb to enable you to get your bit of creative genius out there in internet-land.
The Macbook MB402B/B comes complete with the most recent version of Mac OS X Leopard, which is a significantly step up from its predecessor. Granted it’s been out for over a year and Snow Leopard is due to be be released next year. Leopard does still feature a redesigned Dock, a semitransparent menu bar, and an updated Finder that uses the Cover Flow visual navigation interface that was first seen in iTunes.
It has the standard built-in iSight camera allowing you to video chat, or record your own piece of YouTube infamy as soon as you unbox this laptop.
While it’s not as good-looking as the aluminum case Macbooks on the market, the polycarbonate case on this model is extremely tough and perfect for absorbing knocks as you take your laptop on the road.
If you’re out and about with this Macbook, you can breathe a little easier with its MagSafe power adaptor that is designed to release automatically if someone accidentally trips over the cord. The dents on my current laptop is testimony to how necessary this safety feature really is.
The Macbook MB420B/B still has a sleek design and is a pancake thin 1.08 inches, perfect for any bag and to tuck into the hand-luggage compartment of any plane.
Unlike the Macbook Air, this model has an integrated CD-RW/DVD drive so you can actually use it to do things like listen to music or watch movies from a CD/DVD. These are two basic things that Apple’s netbook just can’t do without additional hardware, and goes to show that paying less doesn’t always mean you’re getting less.
The Macbook MB402B/B has a 120GB Hard Drive and a 13.3″ widescreen display. The battery will last up to 4.5 hours which isn’t too bad but still something to be mindful of.
All in all, this is a great Macbook for the price (£719.99) and with Christmas sales on right now, it’s a good time to bag a bargain.
The Gaj-It Verdict:
Design: 7/10
